Excellent future prospects Important facts in brief

Central position in Europe

In terms of transport, the metropolis is centrally located in Europe at a junction of the European rail freight transport axes Scandinavia-Mediterranean and France-Hungary. Every major European metropolis (Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Milan...) can be reached from Augsburg in just five hours. The metropolis of Munich is only 20 minutes away. The A8 motorway, the B2 and B17 motorways, the B10 and B300, as well as the connection via the B17 to the A96 motorway towards Austria, Italy and Switzerland form this junction. In rail transport, the railway lines are on the ‘Magistrale for Europe’ (TEN-T 17 / Corridor 9 Rhine-Danube) Paris - Strasbourg - Stuttgart - Vienna - Bratislava/Budapest, as well as the Scandinavia - Mediterranean Corridor (European Rail Traffic Management System (ERMTS) Corridor B and Rail Freight Corridor 3). The multimodal freight transport centre with its own rail connection (currently being implemented) enables state-of-the-art production and distribution logistics. Augsburg City Airport is a modern international business airport and is becoming increasingly popular with business travellers and general cargo air freight.

Strong, sustainable and innovative

Environmental technology, information and communication technology, lightweight construction, mechatronics and automation are the proven areas of expertise in Augsburg as a production location with a unique concentration of companies, research institutions, associations, organisations and knowledge. In recent years, synergies have developed between and within these fields of expertise, allowing new future fields to emerge with a focus on new materials, new production technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and adaptive production. Cooperation between companies and research is one of Augsburg's specialities. This can be seen, for example, in the Augsburg Technology Centre, which offers business and science space for intensive technology transfer and knowledge exchange. As a co-operation between the most important institutions in the start-up scene in the A³ economic region, the Augsburg gründet! initiative provides local founders with offers that are as diverse as the scene itself. Continuous innovation is an important factor in strengthening competitiveness. The city of Augsburg takes this into account when developing new residential and commercial areas, for example in the new Haunstetten Südwest neighbourhood and the Innovation Park. It is also breaking new ground in the tendering process for the last available building sites in SheridanPark with the concept award procedure. The aim here is for sustainable ideas to be realised.

Perfect access guaranteed

A modern transport infrastructure with Augsburg as a hub guarantees access to the world's markets. With its ultra-modern air, rail and road infrastructure, Augsburg shines with greater flexibility and extremely convenient accessibility. This includes flexible inner-city mobility options, ultra-modern production and distribution logistics and inner-city logistics. In the coming years, billions of public funds will continue to flow into the further expansion of the region's infrastructure. The economic region is also a leader in the field of digital infrastructure with broadband capacities of up to one gigabit per second, and the expansion of fibre optics is being driven forward.

Knowledge as the foundation for success

Augsburg pupils can choose between 11 grammar schools (including one international school), 9 secondary schools, 42 primary and lower secondary schools, 13 special schools and many independent schools. The University of Augsburg and the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences offer all the faculties that are important for Augsburg's fields of expertise on their respective modern campuses. Fraunhofer Institutes and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) have made a conscious decision in favour of Augsburg as a location. The city of Augsburg works together with the chambers and the Bavarian Ministry of Education to ensure that young people are introduced to the world of work at an early stage. The Employment Agency looks after qualified workers for Augsburg companies and cooperates with the city on the subject of ‘skilled labour’.

Feel good in the city in the countryside

Swabian diligence paired with Bavarian cosiness and Italian joie de vivre - that's Augsburg. The lively, modern metropolis offers the best conditions for feeling at home in a big city surrounded by greenery. The Kuhsee lake is just ten minutes from the centre of the city or you can dangle your feet in the water on the Lech beach. In total, the city area has a river length of exactly 174.1 kilometres. Extensive parks such as the Wittelsbacher Park alternate with idyllic oases of peace such as the Hofgarten and extensive recreational areas such as the Siebentischwald and the Wertachauen. The Renaissance buildings in the city centre do the rest to radiate southern flair, making a leisurely stroll along the boulevards or a chat in a street café a short holiday. Sports enthusiasts can actively participate in one of the many clubs and try out a wide variety of sports, from cycling to canoeing - on the canoe course of the 1972 Olympic Games - almost in the centre of the city. Or you can cheer on the Augsburg Panthers (AEV), FC Augsburg or the local white water sportsmen from the stands. Last but not least: a visit to the Augsburger Puppenkiste and its museum is an unforgettable experience for old-established Augsburgers as well as new residents and guests.
